» FAQ : Turbo Delphi Explorer
What is Turbo Delphi Explorer for Win32?
It is the free edition of Turbo Delphi 2006 for Win32, but a few features
are locked. Its main restriction: you can not add extra components to the
Tools Palette.
Notes: Turbo Delphi 2006 for Win32 is the successor of Delphi 7. It is the long awaited
single language version
of Delphi
2006.
Delphi 2006 contained four programming
environments: Delphi for Win32, Delphi for .NET, C++ Builder and C# Builder.
Why Turbo Delphi Explorer?
- Turbo Delphi Explorer is FREE, whereas Turbo Delphi Pro costs about $400 ;-)
- Distributor Embarcadero explicitly allows you to distribute commercial applications programmed
with Turbo Delphi Explorer!
- It contains the database components, the Borland
Database Engine (BDE) and the internet components such as TTable, TQuery, TClientDataSet,...
This stuff was absent from the previous free Delphi versions, like 7 Personal
and 6 Personal.
- Improved automatic design-time debugging vs. Delphi 7 Personal: more and clearer debugging
messages are shown while
you are typing code.
- Improved code completion vs. Delphi 7 Personal: let's you speed up development.
From where can I download Turbo Delphi Explorer?
- Surf to Embarcadero's Download
a trial page and in the Delphi Downloads table, click the Download link next to Turbo
Delphi Explorer.
Next you are asked to login. That's for the email address where you want to receive
the license
activation file.
Note: if you're not a registered user of the Embarcadero Developer Network, you should click Create
a new account.
- Once logged in, surf to the page 24722 Turbo Delphi
2006 Explorer and click Download on that page. You'll receive the
file TurboDelphi.exe, about 330 MB.

Borland Developer Studio 2006 and Turbo 2006 and click on Download.
You'll receive the file BDS2006HotFixRollup2.exe (about
13.3 MB). This fix ensures that you have all of the latest updates installed, it will increase the
performance and reliability of Turbo Delphi Explorer.
How to install Turbo Delphi Explorer?
- Unzip prereqs.zip, allowing the unzipping program to create directories. Five directories
will be created:
dotNETRedist - contains Microsoft .NET setup files
dotNETJSharp - contains Microsoft J # setup files
dotNETSDK - contains Microsoft .NET SDK setup files
ie60sp1 - contains Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 setup files
MSXML - contains Microsoft XML V4 setup files
- From directory dotNETRedist, run dotnetfx.exe
- From directory dotNETJSharp, run vjredist.exe
- From directory dotNETSDK, run setup.exe
- Reboot your computer.
- I you don't have Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher on your computer:
from directory ie60sp1,
run ie6setup.exe. If you get a message saying that it's already installed, then cancel the IE6 installation.
- From directory MSXML, run msxml.msi
- Put the license activation file in the correct directory; this is very well explained in
Borland's email that you received.
- Finally, install your Delphi Explorer by executing TurboDelphi.exe.
- Start Turbo Delphi Explorer by running bds.exe -- by default, it sits in the directory \Program Files\Borland\BDS\4.0\Bin
Don't try anything else yet -- just stop Delphi and perform step 11.
- Unzip the the "Turbo hotfix rollup" zip-file and run BDS2006HotfixRollup.exe.
This fix ensures that you have all of the latest updates installed. It increases the performance
and reliability of Turbo Delphi Explorer.
- Start playing with Delphi Explorer ;-)
