Highlighted Text

I am using a RichEdit component to create a text editor, and I noticed that when I run it and highlight text, as soon as I click on the button or whatever I want to select, the text doesn't stay highlighted. Also, when I use Find, it doesn't highlight the words it finds, although it is finding them properly. Any advice on how to make/keep things highlighted?
