Appearntly, you have changed the "association" that Windows had with a certain file type, in your case .MAX files. Here's a procedure to restore the file association:

1. Press the SHIFT key and right-click on a file with the deisred extension, .MAX in your case.

2. In the popup menu, select "Open with..."

3. In the list that appears, select the desired program and check the option "Always use this program".
