What is OOP?

What exactly is the meaning of OOP in Delphi? I know that it stands for Object Oriented Programming, but that's about all...

In Object Oriented Programming, you write programs that manipulate objects (combinations of data and program code) that are created from classes.
For example, Delphi’s VCL (Visual Component Library) is a collection of classes to create objects such as forms, tables, queries, radio buttons, check boxes, etc.
